Projects

Idea Bank has a history of getting involved early in trying to solve problems with a predicted pattern of growth. Some ideas fail. Some ideas succeed. All ideas provide lessons and contacts with diverse sources of intelligence and wisdom.

Some projects develop ideas which are not adopted or are adopted but fail during execution. When a problem is part of a pattern of growth, each project harvests lessons, data, intelligence, contacts and experience critical to Idea Bank’s culture of improvement.

Working on these projects expands Idea Bank’s global networks, enabling us to increase our capabilities for bringing them to life.

Many projects are protected by confidentiality agreements, but the themes and patterns of growth can be seen in this chronology of projects.

The project created the foundation for developing expertise in building collaboration between competing forces aligned with the US, Canada and China.

Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR)

Designed and developed ISR system for remote areas to predict, prevent and manage threats to remote areas, including national borders, illegal fishing, threats to species-at-risk, anti-poaching and disaster management. The project created a low cost, wide area network of aerostats and long range drones able to provide aerial observation over areas of 3 million km2. It included secure systems for military and defence operations and community open systems enabling remote area entrepreneurs and Indigenous communities to use the infrastructure to predict, prevent and manage threats from changing weather events and natural disaster.

High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS)

Designed and developed HAPS system with global leader in satellite communications to expand ISR for remote areas to increase security and protection against threats and create the technical platform for low-cost internet in remote areas in Canada’s North, Alaska, Africa, Asia, island nations and South America.

Mobile Aerostat for Disaster Relief

Designed and developed mobile aerostat system for disaster relief enabling life-saving infrastructure and supplies to be delivered to points of need in response to the rising frequency and scale of natural disasters and human-made disasters resulting from violence and conflict.

Global Community of Innovators

Contributed to the design and development of a network of innovators from the US, Canada, China, the UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand and Africa to increase the rate at which new ideas can be tested, evaluated and achieve regulatory approval in healthcare, aerospace and environmental technologies.

Aerospace Innovation Corridors

Designed and developed a concept for aerospace innovators from the US, Canada, China, the UK, EU, UAE, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Africa to be provided regulatory approval to build and test fly new aerospace and aviation designs.

Peace + Freedom Corridors

Designed and developed a concept for aerospace innovators to be provided regulatory approval to build and test fly new aerospace and aviation designs to save lives and encourage electric air mobility innovation for carbon-free transport.

Investment Conference Canada-South Africa

Worked with trade officials and business leaders to organize a Canada-South Africa investment conference on investing in African brainpower, hosted by Bill Graham and former Minister of Finance Michael Wilson to invite President Cyril Ramaphosa to attract investment from Canada to South Africa during the G7 Summit, 2018.

Stratospheric Balloon

Developed financing and regulatory approval for stratospheric balloon program with successful launch of balloon into stratosphere.

Africa National Park Aerostat Network

Developed a strategic plan using a network of self-reliant aerostats and mobile aerostats for national parks in 5 African countries to provide a wide area network of internet connectivity and aerial surveillance for park managers, entrepreneurs and communities in greater parks ecosystems and economies. The project provided services for protecting species-at-risk, preventing illegal logging, anti-poaching, promoting ecotourism, providing a healthcare network and creating a farmer’s soil health service.

Remote Area Health Network

Designed a healthcare system for remote areas in Africa combining telemedicine for prediction of health threats with distribution of diagnostics from points of care to points of need using solar powered mobile aerostat drones, with rapid diagnostics connecting points of threat with supplies, delivered by mobile aerostat.

Soil Care System

Develop financing for a technology to provide farmers with a system of sensors in soil detecting nutrients, moisture and disease connected to a handheld app providing early warning of issues and continual improvement of soil health resulting in 2x to 10x greater productivity of soil per acre or hectare.

COVID Prevention and Management

Developed financing for triage diagnostics platform in late 2019, early 2020 to be used in hospitals, airports and primary locations for potential superspreading events. Matched this with Mazava ranking of hot zone hubs and areas of global collaboration. Connected top ranking infectious disease officials in Canada, US, China, Africa and the Middle East to encourage knowledge sharing on threats and strategies to manage threats.

COVID Corporate Policy

Developed a series of corporate policies on building a culture of health, safety, respect around the realities of managing a business during COVID. Policies included how to diagnose COVID, how to predict threats for spreading COVID, human resource policies on when to come to work, how to prevent infection at work, how to travel during COVID and reduce exposure to infection, how to develop remote work plans and a culture of improvement.

Economic Model for Reefs and Rainforests

Developed an economic model for coral reefs and rainforests, with global investors, local communities and governance of the commons for biodiversity, measuring change, diagnosing threats and investing in remedies to threats.

Self-Reliant Remote Real Estate

Designed and developed a self-reliant remote real estate venture to enable remote work during COVID. The design focused used decades of experience and contacts in remote area infrastructure design for transport, internet connectivity and energy along with infectious disease diagnostics, prevention and management. The venture used a mixed ownership economic model to enable ownership of individual units with shared costs for the development, operation and maintenance of self-reliant infrastructure for transport, communications, energy and waste management.

Field Research University

Developed a field research university with campuses in areas of high biodiversity threats. Developed collaborations with universities from around the world offering an exchange between teaching systems and learning systems: complement the classes and teaching model offered by universities with a learning model by offering access to problems, mentorship and experimentation.

Solar Radiation Modification (SRM)

Developed a strategy for African universities, innovators and governments to create policies governing SRM. This included policies ranging from voting on climate engineering policy at the United Nations to financing African innovators in this space, particularly on local solar radiation management of specific areas such as national parks to find ways to reduce sudden rises in temperature in fragile and threatened ecosystems.
